What do osteopaths treat?
Osteopathy focuses on the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal and other related disorders without the use of drugs or surgery. Commonly treated conditions include back and neck pain, postural problems, sporting injuries, muscle and joint deterioration, restricted mobility and occupational ill-health.

Is it safe?
Osteopathic treatment is an extremely safe and natural approach to health care that works with the body's own health and repair mechanisms.

Osteopathy is a recognized health profession, and has the same safeguards that you would enjoy if you visited a doctor or a dentist.

How many treatments will I need?
Your osteopath will discuss this with you at your first appointment. Typically, an adult might need 4-6 sessions over a period of several weeks, unless your condition is more severe or chronic.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
Although many GPs recommend osteopathy to their patients, you do not need a referral from your GP to make an appointment.

How do I know if an osteopath is registered?
By law all osteopaths have to have received at least 4 years training on an approved course at degree or masters level and must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council. You can check if an osteopath is registered at www.osteopathy.org.uk
